Prophet Muhammad's (صلى الله عليه وسلم ) mission complete
Revelation from God completed
God sent Muhammad to deliver His message to all humans. God had
been sending message for humans through His chosen people who are known as
Prophets and/or Messengers of God, from the day He made first human. The
purpose of God's message is to guide humans and teach them what they don't
know.
Finally God sent Muhammad as His last and final messenger. The
time when Muhammad delivered the final words of God to people; his mission was
completed. The message of God which He sent through Muhammad is
compiled as Quran, the final Book of God.
Last sermon of Prophet Muhammad
In the 2nd year after taking control of Macca, the Prophet
Muhammad left Madina with 1,24,000 companions to perform Hajj (pilgrimage).
Here he delivered his final sermon to the entire assembly of
Muslims. He reminded them of their duties towards Islam, explained the rights
and treatment of women, that nobody should absorb the rights of each other's
property and all Muslims should honour and respect each other. The slaves also
received a declaration of just treatment. False superiority of race, nation and
tribe was discouraged and interest (usury) was made Prohibited.
That day the torch that brightened the Path of Truth was handed to the Ummat and Rasulullah exclaimed to his people "O Lord have I conveyed the Message?" The whole assembly of Muslims replied in one voice: "By our Lord, verily you have".
Prophet Muhammad also told his vast audience: "I leave behind among you two things. If you should hold fast to it, you shall be secure from vices and evil ways, i.e. the Quran and the Sunnah (practice) of Prophet Muhammad".
